If you don’t mind vacationing with kids but desire a bit of adults-only ambiance, then check out Hyatt Ziva Cancun, a family-friendly luxury resort right on Punta Cancun in the Hotel Zone.
This all-inclusive Hyatt resort has a great location–it is surrounded by the ocean on three sides with two swimmable beach areas (the Hotel Zone is shaped like the number 7, so Punta Cancun is right on the upper tip), plus it is within walking-distance to the most popular bars and clubs in Cancun. Adults who want some adults-only resort amenities will have to book a room within the Turquoize Tower. This is a separate building with all rooms having butler service and ocean views, while most offer a balcony Jacuzzi. Turquoize Tower guests get access to the resort’s exclusive rooftop pool and bar which is located above the lobby, private check-in/out, plus elevator access directly to the spa which is located on the ground floor in this building. I believe that adult guests of this resort continue to have daytime access to the bars, restaurants, and pool at the adults-only Hyatt Zilara Cancun which is just a 10-min. drive south. You have to talk to the resort concierge to get a day pass, and transportation is the guest’s responsibility. It’s kind of difficult to get a public bus from Hyatt Ziva Cancun directly to Hyatt Zilara Cancun, but it’s an easy bus ride back which will only cost you $1 p/person. If you take the public bus back, just get off where all the clubs are in the Hotel Zone (tell the driver you want to get off at Coco Bongo…most bus drivers are excellent at remembering desired bus stops)
The resort also offers some unusual amenities like a small brewery in its sports bar where guests can taste test various types of beer distilled on-site, a shop devoted entirely to sugary sweet desserts and snacks including several chocolate fountains, and the opportunity to enjoy on-site dolphin interactions–guests can even stay in the Pyramid guest room building to see dolphins perform from guests’ balconies. Not everyone will enjoy or approve of dolphin captivity, so if that notion is offensive then this is not the property for you.
