In case you haven’t heard, a good portion of the exterior boundary structure that was being constructed at Jaguar National Park in Tulum was in flames the other day and extensive damage was done.  While the incident is under investigation, some of the locals blame Aluxes…Aluxes are mischievous sprites or spirits of the Mayan culture which are known to be “nature’s guardians”.  They live in forests, caves, and cenotes, and help protect the sacred places of the Mayan people.  Those who visit cenotes, start construction, or are disruptive to the environment of the Yucatan Peninsula without asking permission or leaving small offerings to the Aluxes may expect some nastiness in return.

What do you think?  Human error or the Aluxes?  Or, maybe human error with help from the Aluxes?
