If you’ve ever been to the family-friendly Generations Riviera Maya or seen pics of that resort, the adults-only El Dorado Seaside Suites infinity section will look awfully familiar. Each floor in the infinity section has its own pool which traverses part of the floor (you can swim along its length and make friends as you go), while the bottom or ground floor of the infinity section gives you access to the entire main pool and swim-up bar. The room you book depends on what you prefer–the Oceanfront POOL Swim-Up Suites access the main pool, the Oceanfront Swim-Up Suites (non-main pool access) are on lower and mid-floors and some will give you stellar ocean views, while upper floor rooms in the infinity section are reserved mostly for rooms in the Oceanfront Honeymoon Suites category. Even if you’re not a Honeymooner, you can still book the room category but you will pay more for the extra amenities and fantastic views. If you’re not a Honeymooner, I would book that category for an anniversary or if you want to impress someone very special.
But here I am getting ahead of myself in my eagerness in discussing swim-up suites. Sorry, but if you follow my blog that is a particular resort weakness of mine. Just a bit of general info on the resort itself, El Dorado are adults-only properties which are part of the Karisma brand, a very well respected and upscale name in the travel industry. Karisma’s emphasis has always been about food (they call it their Gourmet Inclusive Experience); there are fewer buffets, more a la carte offerings, and food and wine festivals/pairing events in the Riviera Maya have often been hosted at El Dorado properties. El Dorado Seaside Suites used to only consist of the property next door which is now referred to as “Sensimar”; some EDSS room categories are now located there in a section called the “Palms”. (Sensimar is now primarily booked by Europeans through a company called Tui). The old property, now referred to as Sensimar, used to gain many accolades for being the most romantic resort in the Riviera Maya, so its reputation goes back quite a bit. The new infinity section was completed in 2015, I believe, and therefore has a more chic, contemporary look. If you stay at EDSS you have complete access to both resorts, so that means double the restaurants and bars as well as access to all pools. A pretty sweet deal, I think.
The following video is a room from the Oceanfront Swim-Up Suite on the 5th floor. The room layout is the same whether you are staying on the 5th or the ground floor with access to the main pool. What do you think? Would you stay here?
