1. Looking for information on resorts with lazy rivers, we’ve never been to Cancun or about. We party a lot and just want to relax swim drink eat and have fun. What do you recommend?

   • Kathy: Most of the resorts with lazy rivers are in the Riviera Maya south of the Cancun airport, one is at Dreams Playa Mujeres which is north of downtown Cancun. You can check out my resort review of that one on my blog. Here are some others with lazy rivers: Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya, Iberostar Paraiso Lindo/Maya, and a couple of new resorts opening later this year–Senator Riviera Cancun and Now Natura. Lazy rivers in Mexico are not exactly like those in the US, they are slower and not as lengthy.

2. Hi and thanks for creating this site. It is very informative. Where would you recommend a couple of single 40 something girls spend a birthday trip? We are looking for adults-only or a resort that caters to families with older kids, luxury but within a reasonable budget for 6 nights, 7 days and great rooms, a spa and pools. Thanks!

   • Here are suggestions for both Cancun and the Riviera Maya since I don’t know which area you would like to focus on: (Cancun) Riu Palace Las Americas–affordable four star resort with good adults-only vibe, Hyatt Ziva Cancun–very nice family friendly resort with an adults-only accommodations tower that includes access to a rooftop pool, Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun–I’ve been to this adults-only resort twice and love it, get the Aqua Club upgrade, Atelier Playa Mujeres–I was just there in August, a lovely adults-only resort with great food. (Riviera Maya) UNICO 2087 is an adults-only resort with a great spa and lovely rooms, TRS Yucatan–adults-only section within a megaresort, Valentin Imperial Maya–adults-only resort which is typically for couples but it is a wonderful resort, check out Barcelo Maya Riviera which is a new adults-only resort part of a megaresort called Barcelo Riviera Maya–I was here this last February and it has 110 swim-up suites plus you can check out any of the other open resorts in this megaresort plus a beautiful beach as long as the sargassum is not present. 3. Would you recommend excellence or Atelier, hear great things about Excellence. It’s for 45 and 55 year couple for bday.

   • Excellence Playa Mujeres has great reviews and accolades/awards from Trip Advisor and is a great resort to spend a special vacation. Finest PM (Excellence Club upgrade to the adults-only section) is another great resort. I loved Atelier’s food in particular, so if you are a foodie I’d book Atelier–upgrade to Inspira if you can to access the rooftop pool during the day. Great views and bar service from that pool.
