Anyone Else Into Some Spring Break Resort Statistics?

Hola and Buenos Dias!  In case you were wondering why I haven’t done any recent blog posts, I just returned from my latest Cancun/Riviera Maya trip and was having so much fun I barely had time to post pics to my Instagram account!  Stay tuned for articles related to this stay.

In the meantime, here are some basic resort stats I found which help to explain my recent vacay experience in the Cancun and Riviera Maya areas of Mexico during spring break 2023.  To sum up, it is super busy down there!!!  If you are thinking of taking a last minute spring vacation to Cancun or the Riviera Maya, you may want to wait until mid-April for the crowds to disburse and prices to go down, but then you’d miss spring break…anyway, here are the newest numbers.

  • the Riviera Maya barely beat out Cancun’s Hotel Zone resort occupancy rate for the last week of February 2023–90% vs. 89.1%
  • Isla Mujeres reported an occupancy rate of 75.2% (most resorts on this island aren’t all-inclusive, but if you take a ferry from Cancun’s Hotel Zone you will experience the crush, especially if you want to spend the day on beautiful Playa Norte).
  • Costa Mujeres (located north of downtown Cancun proper) resorts reported they were, on the average, 87.5% full.
  • If you want to ferry over to Cozumel from Playa del Carmen for the day, the island is reporting their resorts are 87.3% full on the average so island guests want to enjoy the same amenities you are taking the ferry over to experience yourself
  • If you want to visit the Tulum area, keep in mind that their occupancy rate is 87.3, so beach clubs may be a tad full.

Who’s visiting the most?  US tops the guest list with 37% followed by Mexican citizens at 35.9%; visitors from Canada, the UK, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, and France round out the rest of the countries visiting this part of Mexico during spring break 2023.  In case you are interested, these number were collected from hotel associations, municipal tourism directorates, and the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council.

To date (during 2023), there have already been over 479,278 tourists who have visited the Mexican Caribbean.

So, who else is going?
