There are several brand new/fully renovated resorts opening in 2024 (Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres just opened Feb. 1). Sometimes it’s difficult to keep up with them all! Here’s a brand new build, AVA Cancun, located 10 minutes south of the Cancun airport, and it’s scheduled to open June 27, 2024.
AVA Cancun is a very large resort with two major sections built parallel to the beach. It has 1,743 guest rooms/suites/villas, all of which have oceanfront views. Here is a short list of its highlights:
- 17 restaurants and bars
- 6 swimming pools, one of which is adults-only with a cenote-inspired look
- Crystalline Lagoon. 2.8 acres of saltwater fun where guests can swim, kayak, paddleboard, enjoy a large inflatable structure for water fun, or sail. Looks like it will have lots of sand to make it look like a beach area somewhere in the Caribbean.
- Lots of evening entertainment such as a speakeasy nightclub, disco with lots of DJ’s
- water park with slides
- Kids Club and Teen Lounge. The resort’s website doesn’t list specific ages for the Kid’s Club, but they do mention that toddlers are welcome. There is supposed to be a parents and kids play area–children under age 12 have to have a parent present. They also mention a nanny service but that sounds like babysitting which is always an extra cost at other resorts.
- large spa and gym
- the ever popular pickleball courts
Since this resort’s location is north of Moon Palace (and I think most vacationers who stay in this part of Mexico know what that beach is like), don’t expect much from this beach either. I think that the Crystalline Lagoon is, in part, supposed to make up for this. But if you are a pool person and not into a pristine beach as a necessary part of your vacation then this may be a great choice.
