Want A Peek At How The Sargassum Is Affecting Ocean Access In Playa Del Carmen?

I love drone video of resort areas, they give you such a great overall glimpse into a resort’s layout, what the beach area looks like in general, and how close neighboring properties are to one’s destination.

Drones can also give a glimpse into how bad a sargassum season may be, and from the looks of it this season may be another bad one in terms of how it can affect a resort vacation.

I found this video done by Playa Del Carmen Vacation; it shows the current status (March 1, 2026) of sargassum along the shores of Playa del Carmen proper–northern Cozumel ferry pier (1:35 on the video) going north past The Reef Coco Beach resort (2:28 on the video) just to give you an idea of the area covered.  This part of the video highlights Wyndham Alltra PDC, Hyatt Vivid Playa del Carmen (used to the the Hilton PDC), Devossion (used to be the Grand Hyatt), Mamita’s Beach Club, and Mahekal Beach Resort which I’d love to stay at in the future with its jungle surroundings, then moving on to The Reef CB and beyond–actually, The Reef Coco Beach and further north doesn’t look as bad as the area south. Going up further north I believe you’d find Paradisus Playa del Carmen.

So if you are planning a vacation in this area of PDC anytime soon, this may be what you will face at the beach.

What do you think?  Is there going to be another bad sargassum season this year?
