I love drone videos, they give such a great overall picture of an entire resort or area. The video below highlights Tulum, a small but very popular town on the southern edge of the Riviera Maya. There are two all-inclusive resorts in/nearby Tulum–Kore Tulum is approximately three miles south of Tulum proper, while Dreams Tulum is a 10-minute drive north of the Tulum Ruins and the town. The location of these all-inclusives makes it easy for guests to take in both the ruins and enjoy what Tulum has to offer in an easy day trip.
Tulum used to be the darling of vacationers looking for a cheap but unique Mexican travel experience–beach lovers looking for white sands and turquoise waters, divers, jungle adventurers, beachfront shacks to stay in, and great food initially drew people in the ’60’s and 70’s. While the overall wants of vacationers haven’t changed much over time, Tulum has. The overall vibe in Tulum is now “boho-chic” due to the influx of rich entrepreneurs, fashionistas, yogi, and the many artists which now call Tulum their home.
Tulum is no longer a cheap vacation destination or day trip option. Beachfront hotels (some without basic A/C) charge from $200 to $1,000 p/night; beach clubs will not only charge to use their loungers but in addition have a minimum charge for food and drinks (upgraded poolside daybeds in Vegas anyone?), plus there are some beach clubs where you will get attitude because you are not a hotel guest yet are using their facilities (many beach clubs are associated with specific beachfront hotels).
But people still come here, and with good reason. The water here is beautiful and swimmable. There are many unique souvenirs to purchase and exhibits to see due to the local artist community. Tulum is very close to some of the best cenotes in the Riviera Maya. Tulum still has a very laid back atmosphere where it is cool to chill. And, Tulum has the world famous ruins which remains one of the most popular things to do and see in the Riviera Maya.
So, feel free to explore this beautiful gem in the Riviera Maya, just know what to expect. Take a few minutes to see the video below; what do you think? Have you visited Tulum, or would you take a day trip here?
