For those of you who count on taking the very good public bus system in Cancun’s Hotel Zone, be prepared for some service interruptions, at least for the present. Due to threats from taxi drivers to several bus drivers in the Hotel Zone, the public bus system may not be operating after 10:30 p.m. during your Cancun stay. This is typically a busy time for hotel guests who are in the process of leaving for popular bars and clubs in the Forum area of the Hotel Zone (clubs typically stay open until after 3 a.m. with many patrons arriving after 11 p.m.). Since the bus system in the Hotel Zone only costs 12 Mexican pesos (or you can give the bus driver a $1 USD bill) for a one-way trip, it is the cheapest way to get around Cancun.
Uber has always had a difficult time getting established and continuing service in Cancun, and this is THE primary reason why–angry taxi drivers not wanting competition. So, be prepared to take a taxi after 10:30 p.m. if you cannot walk to your Hotel Zone destination.
