I’ve been absent from my blog for a week cruising blissfully on the Oasis of the Seas courtesy of my son Jared–thanks Jared for great cruise memories! Now back to the “business” of discussing more travel…this time I’m focusing on the 2-story rooftop suite with plunge pool with the Excellence Club upgrade at the highly rated Excellence Playa Mujeres.
EPM has ranked #1 or pretty close to #1 on the Playa Mujeres forum in Tripadvisor for the last several years. It is an adults-only luxury all-inclusive resort north of downtown Cancun in the gated Playa Mujeres/Costa Mujeres area. The property has 450 rooms, 9 restaurants, 11 bars, and 24-7 complimentary room service all in a resort with a fun and casual vacation emphasis. While getting to/from Cancun’s Hotel Zone is not easy or cheap from this location in general, there is an on-site theater for evening entertainment. During the day, the main outdoor activities center for the area is right on the resort’s beach–rent a jet ski, parasail, take out a kayak, there are many daytime activities here. This property has a LOT of couples celebrating special occasions like honeymoons and anniversaries, but it also has a fair amount of couples in general looking for a great time enjoying good food. This is not a resort for singles to meet other singles.
There are rooftop suites in both the Excellence Club upgrade as well as the regular Suite room categories. Most individuals booking rooftop suites get the Two-Story Rooftop Terrace Suite Oceanfront; honeymooners can get the larger two-story rooftop suite (of which there are only one or two available at this resort)–the honeymoon two story rooftop suite has separate living and bedroom areas plus a HUGE shower. Seriously, it’s large enough to have a party in there. Be aware that the bathroom is open concept; that means the other room occupant can see and hear everything going on in the bathroom, even in the shower. I know this bathroom factor is important to some vacationers, even amongst couples, so I thought I’d give a heads up. The best amenity in this room category is the plunge pool on the rooftop–push the button on the plunge pool and the waterfall feature starts. You get plenty of room on the rooftop with places to lounge–large padded daybeds and smaller seating areas, it just depends on your mood. Normally, several large bottles of in-room liquor are included in an Excellence Club upgrade as well as multiple types of mini-bar beer; in addition, a bottle of red and white wine is also in your room. If that amenity is important to you, check with the resort before you leave to make sure that COVID hasn’t disrupted that offering.
I love Excellence resorts (that includes the adjacent Finest resort for families on the north side). They really know how to treat vacationers right by providing great amenities both inside and outside one’s room. If you’d like to see what this room category looks like, check out the video below.
What do you think? Would you stay here?
