Riu Palace Las Americas is in the final stages of finishing its guest room renovations. Although initially scheduled to be completed Oct. 10, 2015, the estimated completion date has been re-set to Oct. 29, 2015. Room renovations have reportedly consisted of installing see-through plexiglass panels on the balconies, new balcony doors, and installing new bathroom amenities including a walk-in shower (the old bathrooms had a dark tub/shower combo). The resort has remained open during these renovations with the option of transferring to the Riu Palace Peninsula.
Riu Palace Las Americas is planning on finishing its renovation project next year in 2016–it is projected that the resort will be working on renovating public spaces for several months next year (estimated dates are Aug. 2016 through Oct. 2016). It is unclear at this time exactly what public spaces will be renovated. Also, due to the nature of these renovations, the entire resort may be shutting down during these months in 2016. Stay tuned for more info!
Hi do you know anything about the upcoming remodel at the Riu Palace Las Americas
Ron: All I’ve heard is that the entire resort will be closed from August 22, 2016 until Oct. 21, 2016, and will re-open as an adults-only resort. I’m imagining the common areas will be renovated (lobby, restaurants, perhaps pools), but with Riu you never know what it’s going to look like until near the end of the renovation. I just hope they keep the original “Palace” look with the chandeliers and wood, I’ve never liked the Vegas-like renovations they’ve done in the last several years, although to be honest Riu Cancun renovation wasn’t THAT bad. Riu Palace Peninsula and Riu Palace Mexico I definitely don’t like the look of, so just hope they’ve modified that with the Las Americas.
My husband and I along with another couple stayed at the Riu Palace Las Americas for two weeks in April 2016. WE have stayed at this hotel many times and will be going back again next April. THe hotel is beautiful and the service and food outstanding. I am anxious to hear about the renovations being done . The furniture in the lobby had to be replaced but other than that everything was great.Hopefully, prices will not increase.
I also love how it looks now–that Old World/Rococo style is still my Riu favorite. It will be a shame if the new remodel resembles the recent renovations at their other resorts. Riu always keeps a tight lid on what their reno’s will look like, but I will try to see what I can unearth.
