Many all-inclusive resorts these days have a swim-up/swim-out suite room category. There are basically two types of swim-ups–those where you can walk directly from your terrace into a pool, and those where you must walk a short ways from your terrace in order to enter the pool. I know it doesn’t sound like much of a swim-up if you have to walk a few step from your terrace in order to enter a pool, but thankfully there aren’t many swim-up suites with that configuration.
I love this room category; you cannot beat waking up, eat a delicious room service breakfast, then walk directly into a pool on a hot summer day in Cancun. No more having to pack your beach bag then head to the nearest pool area hoping to snag a lounger somewhere near. Swim-ups often, but not always, provide your own full lounger (some resorts like Planet Hollywood Cancun provide not only full loungers but a cabana as well in swim-up suite categories), so provided loungers prevent pool frustrations in trying to secure somewhere to sun and place your things.
Another difference in swim-up suites is the ability to swim from your swim-up pool into the main pool with a swim-up bar. Unfortunately, there are very few resorts which allow that luxury. One of the few resorts which does is the adults-only El Dorado Casitas Royale. If you want to see how easily it is done at this resort, click this link for a short video.
El Dorado Casitas Royale doesn’t have the familiar resort layout that most vacationers are used to…this resort is basically divided into eight semi-circles of guest room buildings each with its own pool and swim-up bar smack dab in the middle. Swim-up suites surrounding sectional pools have the ability to allow guests to swim right up to a swim-up bar and order a drink. That is true for each guest building section which offers swim-up suites.
Since El Dorado Casitas Royale is directly adjacent to El Dorado Royale, another adults-only resort, guests of ED Casitas Royale are free to dine and drink at restaurants and bars at ED Royale…a real plus. Stay at one, play at two. If you want to have dinner at the family-friendly resort next to ED Casitas Royale (Generations Riviera Maya) just talk to your concierge to arrange dinner reservations over there. That’s stay at one, play at three resorts.
Besides being able to swim-up to a bar and have a drink, this room category offers the following amenities:
- Karisma’s famous “Aguas del Amor” which is a romantic name for an outdoor shower.
- Indoor hot tub
- Guaranteed king bed
- Marble bathroom
- Building concierge from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kind of like shared butler service.
- In-room pillow and aromatherapy menu
- All rooms have easy beach access given the semi-circle guest room building configuration.
- Terrace daybed and full loungers
- Step-in access to a small pool which meanders around the building configuration.
