Now that I’m a first time grandma I realize I might have to switch my resort emphasis for awhile and highlight the options for those families who might want to travel with infants and very young children. I will focus on one resort at a time (starting with those who cater to infants) and eventually do a master list for easy reference.
First of all, there are not that many all-inclusive resorts in Cancun or the Riviera Maya that cater to infants. That is the bottom line…not only is it hard to find one but even when you do there are severe restrictions involved. I understand the situation from the resort’s perspective–babies and very young children take an awful lot of time (per child) to look after and there are only so many child care employees on staff at any given resort. There are two available options at baby-friendly resorts right now, those where you can drop your baby off for a while and those who require you to be in the room with them at the on-site “Baby Club”.
Finest Playa Mujeres is a 5* all-inclusive resort located north of Cancun proper in the gated community of Playa Mujeres. It is a family-friendly luxury resort and offers plenty of kid-friendly amenities plus areas of the resort which are adult-only. I stayed at this resort shortly after it opened in 2015 and can highly recommend it–I would not hesitate to go back and vacation here with or without a family in tow. It has that ta-da! lobby bar on a lower level (one of Excellence Resorts signature features), separate beach areas for different room categories, lots of swim-up suites, different Kid’s Club areas dependent on age (each one has its own pool area), and plenty to do for all ages.
Finest PM has three distinct child care/kid-friendly sections–Mini-Club for ages 0-6, Maxi Club for ages 7-11, and Teens Club for ages 12-15. The Mini-Club is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; parents are required to be with their children in the Mini-Club if their children are ages 0-2, while 3-6 yr. old children only require parents to sign them in and out (registration is required). The Mini-Club has a nap room, its own bathroom, changing rooms, a separate area for families with babies, a kitchenette, a multipurpose room with games, and a mini-pool playground with water slides for very young children.
Even if families decide not to take advantage of the Mini-Club, the resort still offers the following baby amenities:
- bottle sterilizer
- bottle warmer
- electric kettle
- baby monitor
- baby bathtub
- high chair
- crib
- if your baby is eating solids, the resort will provide gluten-free purees
All of these services are included in your all-inclusive resort price, there is no extra charge to use the Mini-Club facilities or baby amenities.
What do you think? Take a few moments and watch the video below; it shows what family-friendly rooms look like as well as what the Mini-Club facilities offer. Would you bring your baby/toddler here?
