Desire Resort and Spa is the original Mexican “lifestyle” resort designed for both naturalists and “swingers”, mostly between the ages of 35 and 60, looking for a more exuberant party atmosphere.

There are daily activities which echo the resort’s sensual vibe (pole dance lessons, sexy aqua fitness), while theme nights rule the evening (Sensual Wild West, Carnival Erotic Foam Party, and Lingerie Night, to name a few). Guests need to be comfortable with total nudity and public sexual displays to enjoy their stay here. While nudity is allowed in the pool, on the beach, and at the rooftop Jacuzzi Lounge area, guests must wear clothing/a cover-up where food is served or in other public areas of the resort such as hallways or the lobby. Public sexual behaviors are only allowed at the rooftop Jacuzzi Lounge or in the Play Room next to the nightclub.
Those who book this resort will find a compact, village-type atmosphere with rows of white two-story buildings with thatched roofs, lush landscaping, and plenty of cabanas and seating areas. The pool is on the small side, however, with no swim-up bar, while the rooftop Jacuzzi Lounge has double padded loungers, an ocean view, and a swim-up bar.

Various areas of the resort have recently experienced some degree of renovation including the guest rooms, the pool area, and the poolside restaurant. Despite the changes, guests will still find shared balcony space in the Passion Suites, somewhat cramped quarters in many Deluxe Ocean View rooms, while Standard rooms are still the “coziest”.

The beach here is typical for this area of the Riviera Maya–beautiful soft white sand with a slightly rocky ocean bottom. Snorkeling is possible fairly close to shore, while wading and swimming close to shore may be somewhat disappointing for beach lovers.

Con: Small pool and overall guest room size, rocky ocean bottom, room service fee for most guests.

Restaurants/Bars: There is one buffet restaurant, the poolside luncheon and afternoon snack restaurant, and two a la cartes–Sahlo and Suki–reservations are required for the Teppanyaki table at Suki as well as dinner service at Sahlo. Late night snacks are offered at the open-air Melange Bar which also serves drinks 24 hrs. a day. Other bars include the upstairs Jacuzzi Lounge bar, Sahlo restaurant bar, pool bar, and beach bar.
Entertainment: There are lots of daytime and nightly entertainment options including poolside classes and games, live music or fashion shows at the Melange Bar, disco theme nights, foam party, and DJ music.

This information is several years out of date. There is now a swim-up bar at the pool, which also has a roof over it for a bit of shade or escape from a shower. There are four new rooms of a higher luxury and price point, each with two levels that includes a roomy livingroom and bar area, a small personal jacuzzi outside the glass doors and a pool shared with the three other “villa” rooms.
