I just ran across a Travel Weekly article that stated the fully renovated Paraiso de la Bonita will now be opening sometime in March 2025 (formerly known as Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita which was privately owned). Marriott International has taken over ownership while I believe that Playa Hotels and Resorts will maintain management of the property.
Some items I noticed from the article–check-in will now be 4 p.m. and check-out will be 11 a.m. (just like some Riu resorts, Marriott?), and there will be an indoor pool (maybe in the spa?) and two outdoor pools. Prior to the renovation, there was the outdoor main pool and the outdoor pool associated with the spa, so I’m assuming one pool will still be associated with that amenity. The resort will continue to be a FAMILY-FRIENDLY property (which I think is a mistake marketing-wise)–this is a small supposedly luxury all-inclusive resort with only around 100 guest rooms and suites, no water park on-site, no children’s clubs either as far as I know, so what are kids supposed to do while on vacation? If you’ve ever vacationed with children, you know you are going to get bugged every 5 min. if they are not entertained. I can’t see this working out for this particular resort.
In terms of an opening timeline, this resort was supposed to open “late 2024”, then it was supposed to be sometime in Jan., then maybe in Feb., and now March. The bottom line is who actually knows when this resort will open??? If you want to bug Marriott about their opening date at this resort, their phone number from the US and Canada is 1-800-535-4028.
So who’s looking forward to staying at this totally renovated resort? It wasn’t supposed to be a complete tear down, but it has been closed since Dec. 2023.
