Looking To Find A (Mostly) Sargassum-Free Resort This Summer?

It’s that time again, when you have to worry about how much sargassum will wind up on your resort’s beach for your summer vacation.  If you want an opportunity to reduce your chances of having your beach experience ruined by summer sargassum, read on…

First of all, a full disclosure–the only time I have visited the beautiful island of Isla Mujeres was several years ago on a day trip while staying at TRS Coral in the Costa Mujeres area north of downtown Cancun.  I did not stay at any resort on this island, but I have recently considered it when thinking of vacationing during summer in this part of Mexico. I visited the island during the month of January, so there was no sargassum whatsoever, but then Jan. is not a month known for sargassum flow or accumulation.

According to info I have read, if staying on the western side of Isla Mujeres there should be little if any sargassum because the shape and placement of the island makes sargassum basically flow around Isla Mujeres.  That means western-facing beaches on the island don’t face the same scourge of the Caribbean that Riviera Maya or Cancun resorts now face each summer.  Of course, vacationers must take a ferry from the Cancun area to get to the island; Ultramar is the most popular ferry service in the area and has the most sailings, so I would suggest you consider this company.

One such resort without horrible sargassum problems is Privilege Aluxes Isla Mujeresit’s located just south of famous Playa Norte beach and is an all-inclusive optional resort.  That means be careful when booking to make sure you are getting what you want for your vacation.  The property offers the following:

  • adults-only with 124 guest rooms
  • 3 restaurants including one at their Beach Club area, plus you can order food around the pool area
  • 2 bars (no lobby bar, however)
  • 1 pool with swim-up bar.  The Bali beds around the pool are supposed to be complimentary.
  • 2 Jacuzzis
  • Beach Club with Bali beds, the Bali beds are an extra cost, however
  • gym and small spa
  • access to golf cart rental (Isla Mujeres is a great place to explore using a golf cart since it is a fairly small island)
  • 24/7 room service
  • airplane-sized bottles of in-room liquor
  • Coke products in the complimentary minibar (anyone who says there’s no difference between Coke and Pepsi is lying, lol)

Well, what do you think?  Is it worth taking a ferry from Cancun to the island and stay at a smaller resort like this than face mountains of sargassum??  I think so.  Below is a short video highlighting the resort.  Would you stay here?
