Every year between the months of June through September flocks of Cancun visitors will make a day trip off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula to get a chance to snorkel and swim with whale sharks. No need to get anxious, however, these sharks only eat plankton and are not known to attack people so this may be an intimidating day trip but it’s not dangerous.
The best places to see whale sharks during this time is off the coasts of Isla Mujeres, Isla Contoy, and Isla Holbox. Vacationers staying in the Riviera Maya may want to wait until they stay in the Cancun area or be prepared to deal with a very lengthy travel day. Also, if you are prone to seasickness this may not be the best choice of an excursion since many vacationers doing this excursion experience some level of nausea due to the wave action in getting to these locations from Cancun.
Below is a video highlighting what one of these excursions is like just in case you are thinking of doing it…What do you think? Have you ever taken this tour, or are you thinking about it?
