I found this great video of the beautiful island of Isla Mujeres which is easily reached from Cancun’s Hotel Zone. It’s great for a day trip if you are staying in Cancun or the Playa Mujeres/Costa Mujeres areas since there are multiple ferry piers to take people over to the island. You also have the option of booking a catamaran excursion which will take you to Isla Mujeres in addition to providing snorkeling opportunities plus an open bar and lunch from your catamaran.
I visited this island prior to Covid; when I arrived I hired a private driver who gave me a tour of the island then dropped me off to spend the rest of my time at Playa Norte prior to walking back to the ferry to return to Cancun. So there are multiple ways for you to have a very good time if you decide to spend the day here. Most visitors hire a golf cart to get around, so get there early before they are all sold out (multiple businesses rent out golf carts).

Just got back yesterday. Isla Mujeres is a great time. We did the catamaran trip with snorkeling, full lunch buffet as well as open bar on the island (and boat). We had two stops, first for lunch (hour and a half) and then second for shopping (two hours). The island is super busy and the vendors are fairly aggressive but all in good fun. We have gone to the island on every trip to Cancun. We used Sailing Cancun and booked through Thomas Moore at Sands Royal Resorts. Total was $110 per person. This included transport from and to Sands as well.
