While I’ve never stayed at the very large Bahia Principe megaresort which is located close to Akumal in the Riviera Maya, I do know that the beach area has always had mixed reviews due to the sand whales which were placed offshore to prevent beach erosion (sand whales is a term that describes the incredibly huge black sand-filled bags which are located offshore and basically ruin a perfect ocean panorama at some Riviera Maya resorts).
The video below done by Traveling Tariq is a current view of what the beach area is like at the reportedly best section of the megaresort, Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal. As you can see, the sand whales look like they have been removed and replaced by some sort of floating barrier (perhaps to keep sargassum off the beach), but the rocky ocean entry may surprise some–I haven’t seen so many rocks in prior videos from the past.
Has anyone stayed here before? What is the beach like now compared to just last year? Post in the comments sections below and thank you!
Take a look at the beach area; what do you think?
