Ever Been To Yal-Ku Lagoon?

Many people who vacation in Cancun or the Riviera Maya wind up at Akumal Bay to snorkel with sea turtles–it is the second most popular destination to visit and the most popular beach destination in this area of Mexico to visit when it comes to tourism.

However, most individuals who travel to this destination while on vacation miss seeing nearby Yal-Kú LagoonThis lagoon is comprised of both fresh and saltwater which makes for a unique swimming and snorkeling experience.  If you’re already at Akumal Bay it’s possible to head over to Yal-Kú in one of several ways:

  • You can always walk but it is approximately over a mile and will take about 30-40 min. depending on how leisurely the pace.  Make sure to bring lots of water if you’re going that route.
  • You can rent a taxi, there are a lot of them once you are just outside the entrance to Akumal Bay.  It will probably cost you around $10+ USD each way and take about 7-10 min.
  • You can rent a golf cart, the last time I saw them they were by the taxis but you can always inquire at the dive shop if you are already at Akumal Bay to see where they are located at this point.
  • You can always rent a car for a day from your resort (many resorts have onsite car rental companies) and drive yourself the entire way, but it’s always risky renting a car in Mexico.

The video below is done by Everything Playa del Carmen (they have a very informative website on the PDC area) which shows how to access the lagoon, what to bring, and what the experience looks like.  Leave a comment below and let me know if you’ve been to Yal-Kú Lagoon or are thinking about visiting..
