I previously posted a blog article highlighting the generally unknown tax that Cancun airport had decided to enforce regarding bringing multiple electronic devices into Mexico–bringing a laptop and other device like an iPad was taxable (this rule was primarily for international travelers only). Well, the government of Quintana Roo has decided that it does not look good for Cancun as a travel destination to tax international travelers this way so they’ve decided to not enforce this rule after all. I still think there may be a tax on bringing in more than two separate cameras/video cameras, but most people use their phones for pics and video anyway so that may not be applicable. Just be aware that may be carved out for taxation at the airport.
Also, keep in mind that this decision ONLY applies to the Cancun airport; if you arrive to this area of Mexico via the new Tulum airport or at the Cozumel airport this tax would still be in effect.
