The Biden administration has decided to temporarily do away with the COVID testing requirement for international travelers wanting to enter the US; this decision was made based on the CDC’s recommendations that this testing was no longer necessary. This directly affects US citizens who are returning to the US from trips to Mexico–no more negative COVID test result 24 hrs. prior to your return. This new directive will be going into effect this Sunday, June 12, 2022.
According to the current administration, this lifting of the travel mandate will be re-evaluated every 90 days and reinstated if COVID cases rise due to a new and troubling variant along with CDC recommendations.
While this certainly makes it easier and less stressful to fly home to the US, it raises the possibility of unintentionally carrying the virus back home–an increased number of sick people at the airports and on flights is certainly a possibility. Everyone has to make up their own mind about this, but I intend to still wear my mask at airports, on flights, and avoid large groups at resorts. This sh*t is real despite what some people say about COVID. I got COVID for the 2nd time in Jan (and I’m fully vaccinated plus booster), my brother just died of COVID in Dec., and every week I get calls from clients telling me they can’t come in because they have COVID, they are quarantining because a family member has COVID, or one of their family or friends is in the hospital or dead because of COVID. Your patience may be short with COVID, but don’t let that contribute to not protecting yourself and others from a virus which does nothing but perfect itself over time.
Be safe everyone.
