For those of you who haven’t already heard, there was a fire at Bahia Principe Grand Coba (part of the Bahia Principe megaresort in the Riviera Maya) that occurred which burned down multiple buildings.
The fire started in a restaurant and quickly spread to other buildings including the lobby, sports bar, main buffet, Mikado, and Le Gourmet restaurants which reportedly are all gone. As far as I know, no one was hurt which is a blessing considering how extensive the fire was and how quickly things burned.
In 2017, the adjoining resort, Bahia Principe Grand Tulum, burned in a similar fashion. One can only surmise that fire retardant maintenance on their palapa roofs wasn’t kept up as recommended which is why it spread so quickly.
