For those of you expectantly waiting for Grupo Xcaret’s latest adventure “park” to open, Xibalba Yucatan Nature Reserve, you will have to wait a little longer.  Construction has been temporarily halted due to a lack of environmental permit filings on record.

Reportedly, the park has been accused of the following:  drilling cenotes and connecting them via artificial underground rivers, ceilings and vaults being drilled, and natural underground rivers being diverted, to name a few.

The halt of construction is supposed to be temporary until proper paperwork has been filed.  However, if the “damage” has already been done and it is seen to be extensive who knows when the park will actually open…
