What’s New at Breathless Riviera Cancun?

Those of you who have been patiently waiting for the After Dark sports bar and nightclub to open have to wait no longer.  While it’s opening was initially delayed over two months after the resort’s official opening, After Dark is now open for late-night partiers (it’s open until 3 a.m.).

Now that the kinks are out and the resort is running more smoothly, let’s take a look at what is fresh and different about Breathless Riviera Cancun:

  • each room has an iPad with which guests may check out resort activities, restaurant info, make spa reservations, control in-room factors such as temperature, access the internet (WiFi is free) so that guests can post pics of the resort to FB, you get the idea.
  • the resort is divided into three different adjoining sections–the Xcelerate party zone and pool (also known as the “Freestyle pool”) on the north end of the resort (this pool has a swim-up bar, dancing platform for hired dancers and DJ equipment as well as a clear plexiglass panel so that beachgoers can see into the pool), a “Giantcuzzi” which seats approximately 35, and foam parties twice a week.  This pool area is open until 2 a.m. and is topless-optional.  The second section, called Allure, has a much larger pool (also known as the “Energy pool”) which has a swim-up bar, sectional seating areas built into the pool, catamaran mesh nets so that guests can lay over the water without being in a lounger, and has a lesser party vibe than Xcelerate (but still can be quite energetic from time-to-time).  The third pool area is called Xhale and is for those guests who want to take a break from partying.  While there is no swim-up bar in this pool, it does have built-in sectional sofa areas for socializing and an adjacent Mediterranean restaurant only for Xhale guests (the Xhale Club is an upgrade).
  • various theme parties are held each night with themes varying by month (see the website for an idea of their monthly goings-on).
  • entertainment includes live music venues (sax player, rock and reggae bands), DJ music (house/techno/EDM), fire show, beach parties, evening entertainers by the Wink Bar (acrobats, neon body painters on occasion, break dancers–this is more of a high-energy resort.
  • it’s not fresh and different, but there is a beachfront swing bar (I love them).

In terms of negatives, there seems to be a lack of information/pics about upper level suites (Jr., Master, and Presidential Suites) which makes it difficult for vacationers to book rooms with confidence if no one seems to know much about them.  I did see a short video today on Instagram which showed the Master Oceanfront Suite (Xhale Club section) which had a separate bedroom with king bed, half bath, full en suite bathroom, dining area and living room area with sectional L-shaped sofa, flat screen TV, and a HUGE oversized terrace with Jacuzzi tub, several tables and chairs with loungers as well.

Also, beach Bali beds and loungers may not have much of an ocean view since there is a berm, or raised sand dune, which sits between the loungers and ocean entry.  Guests are not allowed to drag loungers over to the waterline.  Best to bring water shoes because there are some small rocks at ocean entry.

Take a look at the following fun video and see if this new resort looks like the type of place you could have the time of your life at–and if anyone has any more info about the upper level rooms, please let us all know what your experience was; we would appreciate it!
