Both the Riu Dunamar and Hotel Xcaret Mexico are open for business, just as promised. From what I have heard, there are the usual soft opening issues–getting some elevators to work at the Riu, some communication issues at Hotel Xcaret (limited English speaking from some staff), a la carte restaurant limitations with a less than full house, but these are not out of the ordinary issues given a brand new resort opening. A pleasant surprise is the water park opening at the Riu (I didn’t even know they had adult waterslides).
For those of you wanting an update on the new Riu Dunamar, looks like it is slated to open the first week of December 2017 and is expected to be close to fully operational upon opening date. I originally had some questions as to its location, and from what I can gather it is situated north of Secrets Playa Mujeres more towards the end of the peninsula–next to Secrets is the new Palladium that is being built. While Riu Dunamar is listed as being in the municipality of Isla Mujeres, it is not actually ON the island of Isla Mujeres (which is a ferry ride across the sea). The new Riu is supposed to be a doable walk from the public beach area of Isla Blanca where winds are relatively stiff and kiteboarding is popular.
Looking to try out a new all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya? Check out Hotel Xcaret, an “All-Fun Inclusive” resort located at km. 282 near beautiful Xcaret Park. This all-suite resort with 900 rooms offers a new concept–unlimited access to several Riviera Maya parks and attractions including Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Xplor, Xplor Fuego, Xoximilco, Xenses, and tours to cenotes, Chichen Itza, Coba, and Tulum ruins.
The new resort, Ocean Riviera Paradise, has now officially opened its casino. For those who want to check out the resort, follow this link.
Since much of The Grand at Moon Palace (the newest addition to Moon Palace) is now completed (the water park is still not done, however), the resort has decided to limit those from the Nizuc and Sunrise sections (non-timeshare members) from entering the Grand section. For non-members, it looks like the only way to see the Grand section is to book one of its rooms, otherwise you will be turned away by security. Members who haven’t upgraded their membership to include all of the Grand section can still access the Grand without a day pass until Oct. 2017.
If you’re wondering what the overall layout is like at Ocean Riviera Paradise, take a look at the following video which was made just before the resort opened its doors several months ago. While the resort has been accepting guests since December 2016, the Casino has not been completed to date.
My son took this video with his GoPro at Dreams Playa Mujeres; it gives a pretty good idea of what the lazy river experience is like in the tube. Hope you like it!
Here is video #3 in the series of videos about Dreams Playa Mujeres. I stayed in an upgraded room, Preferred Club Jr. Suite Ocean View, in building #7 on the 4th floor. Take a look and let us know what you think!
