Construction on the southern end of the resort wasn’t supposed to continue until May 2015, but evidently the resort has decided to renew their efforts to work on the new villas and amenities over by existing villa 66. The Chit Bar and beach bar on this end of the resort have closed and loungers have been moved, so those of you who enjoy this quiet part of the beach and resort will be disappointed since you will have to find a new favorite spot. So far the workers have kept the construction noise to a minimum, but that may change soon as they continue to build the new villas.
Found a nice video on Vimeo.com which shows several different beach areas and towns in the Riviera Maya. Check out the video and see what looks familiar to you–I saw Riu Palace Riviera Maya twice within the first 2 1/2 minutes, Gran Porto Real and THE Royal Playa del Carman at around the 4:26 mark, and what I believe is the new Secrets Akumal construction at around the 3:33 mark.
